The point of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) is that no country would attack each other with ICBMs (capable’s of sending nuclear war heads between continents) because throwig nukes against one, would mean both throwing nukes at each other, which would mean mutually asured destruction, creating a Nuclear Power Ballance, that ensure that no one would use nukes against each other because the possibility of retaliation worked as a DETERRENT for nuclear warfare. But the US wanted to have the unique advantage of having a shield, so they could shoot nukes at others without getting retaliated, so they got out of the Treaty because they wanted to develop such a system that could break the balance of power (which could potentially meant they could have the advantage). Obviously, breaking the ballance of power, trying to make Russia’s ICBM warheads useless against the US, while keeping US warheads functional against Russia is a way threaten them, the lack of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) meant that the US could unilaterally attack Russia in the future without consequences.

Trump also wants to get “sweet” and “cozy” with Russia, because he believes that he can separate it from China, which he sees as the greatest future economical, technologycal and political competitor, and the greatest challenger to United States’ Hegemony, as he knows that without Russia’s help, it is simply impossible for the US to defeat China’s growing economy which will most certainly and almost unavoidably surpass the US within a few decades, putting a definitive end to US’s Hegemony, so it’s all part of their China Containment Policy.
